Indie Rock, Over? And Just When I Was Getting Used To It:
From the stage at the end of Saturday's show in New York, Robert Pollard announced the impending breakup of Guided By Voices, claiming "When we quit, indie rock will die." Immediately, members of Sonic Youth called their doctors for a checkup. A final album will be out in the fall, and they'll have a final concert on New Years' Eve. Martin Scorsese is scheduled to have other plans. (via Billboard.)

News Of Indie's Death Exaggerated, Apparently:
Indie labels now account for 17% of all music sales, and their laissez faire attitude toward the Internet only seems to help them increase their sales tenfold. Funny old thing, that.
