Damien Rice - 'O' (Vector Recordings)

Jeff says:
Sometimes very powerful music doesn't have to have thunderous drumming, wailing guitars, and screaming vocals. Proof of that is Damien Rice's debut album "O", just the letter "o". A lot of Damien's record is so quiet you'll wonder if there's anything playing, but it's a heck of a lot more powerful than most of the angry, young, white, male "Cookie Monster Rock" that's so prevalent in today's charts. Recorded over the course of 2 years, released over a year ago in his native Ireland, "O" was, for the most part, recorded in Damien's apartment with very few overdubs and almost completely live. There is the immediacy...the urgency...that comes from not trying to make a record, but letting the record make itself. With the help of his remarkable band he's made a record that is at once depressing, uplifting, heartfelt, heartbreaking, moving...and powerful. June 3rd is the official US release date for "O" and Damien - with the whole band - will celebrate with a show at New York City's Bowery Ballroom on June 11th.
