Altrok Radio (No, Really)
by Sean Carolan

[Summary: Tune in to WRSU-FM 88.7 today at noon, when Altrok Radio premieres. The following is the announcement that went out to the NJ Radio Board at www.radio-info.com.]

Being a former FM106.3 and WRSU disc jockey from the halcyon days of college and alternative radio (that'd be 1982 to 1992 by my reckoning), I've been interested in finding a forum that would let me try three things:

1. Play what I'd like. See above for an idea of what that means.
2. Whine creatively (but not annoyingly) about the state of the music industry.
3. Produce a show on my home computer, with objects normally found around the house. (Well, my house, anyway.)

Until now, web radio had to fulfill that function, but WRSU in New Brunswick has seen fit to indulge me, my taste in music, and my geekier propensities.

Altrok Radio, a two hour show, will premiere Monday at noon on 88.7, WRSU-FM. The first show's in the can, and with any luck, it'll occupy that slot weekly. WRSU's only request was that roughly 50% of the music be less than two years old. My guideline is that it should all be stuff that FM106.3 either played in 1986, or would have played if they owned the record or if it fell through a hole in time from today.

Many thanks to the FM106.3 mailing list members for tolerating my pleas for consultation, and to Mike Marrone for confirming I'm on the right track.

I'm positioning the show as an extension of the Altrok website, which in turn is an attempt (futile though it may be) to keep the old FM106.3 sensibility from being lost in the mists of time without getting nostalgic about it. For a sense of what the show will be about (musically at first, but commentary segments are sure to follow) check out the site at http://www.altrok.com.
