ALTROK Ordinals 43

Peter Case - Beeline (Vanguard)
Jeff says: Peter Case's new album "Beeline" is his ninth solo album since 1986. Before that he fronted the LA power-pop band The Plimsouls who had a new wave hit with the song "A Million Miles Away". Before that he was in the short-lived but influential band The Nerves who had a song called "Hanging On The Telephone" that later became a hit for Blondie. His power-pop heritage notwithstanding, he's become one of the finest American folk/rock and blues narrative storytellers. Or, as he used to put it, a "rock and roll folk singer". For more than a decade Peter has been one of the last true American troubadours.

After a few years on a major label from the late 80s though the early 90s he was forced to self-release a couple of albums before hooking up with the legendary Vanguard label for his last few.

While "Beeline" might not be the strongest album in his catalog, it does include some of his best songs. "Something's Coming", "I Hear Your Voice", "Lost In The Sky", and "If You Got A Light To Shine" among them. To see and hear Peter really shine, you have to see and hear him live...alone...just him, his guitar and his harmonica. And Friday March 28, 2003 at the Brookdale Performing Arts Center is your chance to do so. Peter will be taking part in the "90.5 The NIGHT Songwriters Showcase" along with Scott Miller (of Scott Miller & The Commonwealth) that night.
