ALTROK Ordinals 40

Aimee Mann - Lost In Space (SuperEgo Records)
Jeff says: Aimee Mann is back with her 4th critically acclaimed solo record since 1993 (not counting the soundtrack to Magnolia). "Lost In Space" is also the 2nd one to be released on her own label, Super Ego Records. She is considered by many fans and peers as one of the finest songwriters to emerge from the 80s New Wave scene. This new CD features Michael Penn, Jason Falkner, and members of the LA band Baby Lemonade. A lot of the album's songs work collectively (as in a "concept album") to make the album more than just a collection of disconnected songs. A central theme to most of them is addiction. But that doesn't mean that Aimee has been dealing with addictions. She says, "it's not a word-for-word depiction of each day of my life. Everything is done to a code that only I know." Stand out tracks include first single "Humpty Dumpty", "Guys Like Me", "Pavlov's Bell", and "This Is How It Goes".
