Considering that many DJ's, producers and "remixers" have for many years been scouring record shops for some of the classic Verve Records catalog, it makes some sense that this record was finally made. Legendary jazz label Verve invited some of the world's most reknowned remixers into their vaults to see what they could find. What they've ended up with is a great new look at some of the finest vocal recordings of the century.

Standout tracks include Carmen McRae's "How Long Has This Been Going On?" (remixed by MJ Cole), Dinah Washington's "Is You Is Or Is You Ain't My Baby?" (remixed by Rae & Christian), and Billie Holiday's "Strange Fruit" (remixed by Tricky).

Perhaps having some of the biggest names in contemporary dance music put their spin on some of the greatest jazz records will bring a new audience to this timeless music. And if you'd rather have the original versions of the songs there is also a Verve//Unmixed album out.
