Never follow a crowd simply because they're a crowd. If you happen to be following a crowd, convince yourself that you're leading them.

Marketers market, to the exclusion of all other motives. Face value is very cheap, indeed.

Being first isn't important. Spend less time being concerned that you're first, and more time finding something interesting, and you'll find you're first anyway.

Commitment counts. If you make, or listen to, a genre that's generally considered lame, doing it with conviction will uncover its original value. (Yes, swing really was that good.)

Rules only matter when things don't work. When things work, rules get rewritten.

Do it anyway.
